Job hunting 'easier for recently unemployed'
22/01/2009

Workers who recently lost their jobs find it easiest to get new ones, says the Institute for Employment and Skills.
Its research found it was new entrants to the jobs market that struggled most.
"Recently laid-off workers are likely to enjoy an advantage in the competition for the shrinking number of job vacancies, and young people coming out of education and training will struggle to get the jobs they had hoped for," said director Nigel Meager.
The current employment situation is making it exceptionally difficult for students to settle into their first position.
London's independent student newspaper, London Student, told its readers: "It is completely beyond the power of any party to provide each year's 400,000 graduates with grad-level jobs as the country slides into recession."
However, it went on to remind them, job prospects for graduates are higher than for people without a degree.
