Executive recruitment 'tighter'
15/04/2009

Job vacancies at executive-level in businesses across the UK are becoming increasingly competitive as the economic gloom continues, it has been suggested.
While the recession has seen people at all levels of business suffer, the Institute of Directors (IoD) has suggested the market for vacancies at executive level has slowed over recent months, as businesses tighten up their operations and make cutbacks.
However, Graeme Leach, director of policy at the IoD, explained that different businesses are navigating the choppy financial waters in different ways.
"My anecdotal evidence would be that it is clearly a lot tighter but [in some areas] it is still fairly fluid and placement is still possible," he said.
He also warned that the impact of the recession would be felt on the availability of job vacancies throughout the course of 2009.
"I think the recession will certainly run for most of this year. Job market recovery is going to lag back slightly, but again, that would be for the general management job market," he suggested, adding that more specialist areas could see plenty of recruitment continuing.
The IoD is the world's most experienced and long-standing organisation advocating director professionalism and provides a network that reaches into every corner of the business community, according to the organisation's website.
