Workers 'happy to take pay cuts'

Workers are happy to take pay cuts to save their jobs, research finds.

According to a poll of 2,500 adults by campaign group Keep Britain Working, nearly a third of employees would accept a change of conditions and almost half said they would even change their role to keep working.

"If people believe that being flexible about their own employment conditions will help stem job losses they will take on change and make personal sacrifices, especially if bosses do their bit," says campaign founder James Reed.

As well as being open to pay reductions and changing working patterns, one in five of those questioned said they were prepared to apply for a sabbatical on reduced pay to insure their position.

The campaign's website has received more than 400 suggestions of "innovative and effective ways" bosses can avoid cutting jobs, claims Mr Reed.

The government has said it is to invest in Britain's working future and pour additional funds into innovation, skills, finance, infrastructure and trade, it has been reported.ADNFCR-1196-ID-19128730-ADNFCR
