Increasing demand for accountants hits the City

20/11/2007

Rises in oil prices are forcing big firms to seek top City accountants in order to manage the current surge in business, industry reports claim.

Leading operators such as BP, Shell and Halliburton are actively seeking accountancy services in a bid to optimise revenues in the growing oil market, along with the Big Four - KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young and Deloitte.

In September the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) called for the government to address the sector's declining talent pool in its education and skills policy.

Clare Minchington, managing director of education, learning and development at ACCA, then commented: "An increase in world trade and regulation has created high demand for professionally qualified accountants. But the supply has not met this demand, leading to a shortage of finance professionals required to support the growth of the world's major economies."

The ACCA continues to train and qualify professional accountants and accounting technicians in the UK in a drive to meet the ongoing corporate demand. ADNFCR-1196-ID-18362211-ADNFCR
