CIMA first to offer Islamic Finance qualification

06/12/2007

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) has launched a global qualification in Islamic Finance, making it the first professional chartered accountancy body to offer it.

The CIMA's Centre of Excellence now offers the self-study qualification, developed in collaboration with the International Institute of Islamic Finance, in a bid to meet the needs of its employer and student shareholders.

Robert Jelly, director of education at CIMA, said: "CIMA has identified that there is considerable demand from the global business community to develop the knowledge and skills required to service this increasingly important market.

"The CIMA Islamic Finance qualification is the first to be created in conjunction with an Advisory Group made up of academics, practitioners and scholars of Shari'ah, and will assist employers in the City of London and other major financial centers throughout the world in equipping their employees to develop financial products."

At present, the Islamic finance industry is estimated to be worth between £150 billion and £250 billion and has a predicted growth rate of 15 to 20 per cent.ADNFCR-1196-ID-18383712-ADNFCR
