Graduates to get top accountancy jobs

21/12/2007

The first degree in Britain that incorporates work experience as a chartered accountant is yielding positive results for graduates, it has been reported.

Newcastle University, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) teamed up to launch the new degree, which combines academic study with paid work experience.

Commenting on the success of the scheme so far, ICAEW executive director of learning and professional development Raymond Madden said that almost all graduates of the course have secured placements in PwC offices around the country.

He added: "Today's graduates now have an excellent foundation to build a career in professional services and graduates can take an accelerated route to qualify as a chartered accountant."

PricewaterhouseCoopers is the world's largest professional services firm and had aggregate worldwide revenues of $25 billion (£12.6 billion) in 2007.

The ICAEW accountancy body was founded in 1880 and represents over 124,000 members.ADNFCR-1196-ID-18404749-ADNFCR
