Accountancy needs to promote fair recruitment
14/02/2008
Diversity experts and charities have called for accountancy firms to do more to promote disability friendly recruitment methods, Personnel Today has reported.
Managers from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Deloitte & Touche, Ernst & Young and KPMG all attended a seminar during which they looked at best practice issues.
Sarah Churchman from PwC explained that firms need to "take immediate steps to build a culture that promotes a better understanding of working with disability and the issues it raises".
She said that individuals should be inspired by their earlier successes, whether they were affected by a disability or not.
"The accountancy profession has made steady progress with regards to gender and ethnic equality, and we need to mirror that success in tackling disability equality."
All professional firms have established practices to ensure the fair treatment and management of employees these include channels through which workers can make complaints.
