FSA approves new finance school

21/02/2008

The National Skills Academy for Financial Services has opened in Tower Hamlets, with the backing of the Financial Services Authority (FSA).

The academy hopes to provide a "gold standard" of training for the finance sector by using the knowledge of industry-experienced tutors.

Hector Sants, chief executive of the FSA, said: "Employers will benefit from the increased flow of enthusiastic, high-quality entrants from diverse backgrounds into the financial services industry."

Mr Sants went on to explain that the UK needed to further develop top training facilities and break down "perceived barriers" in the industry.

London is the UK's financial centre and attracts the world's biggest corporations and investment groups.

Citigroup, Merrill Lynch and HSBC are working in partnership with the new academy, which will chose its students based on their enthusiasm and financial ability, rather than on qualifications that are more formal.
