The office gets workers "stressed"
03/06/2008
Poor conditions and office equipment is leaving workers stressed out, new research has claimed.
One in five workers said their working environments are poor or below average and roughly ten per cent said this had forced them to resign from a post, the study by employment lawyers, Eversheds, found.
"The standard of the office is one place that employers can control and, if UK businesses are to remain competitive, we need to ensure that we are investing in and creating an optimum working environment," said the firm's Cornelius Medvei.
Popular complaints were lack of natural light, uncomfortable temperatures and poor office equipment.
Mr Medvei added the report highlighted " a key area in which businesses can make improvements to boost morale and increase productivity".
Separate research by disability insurer, UnumProvident, assessed the cost of stress to the economy. It calculated claims related to mental ill health had increased by five per cent every year since 2000.
