Economy worries keeping workers awake

03/07/2008

Worries over the economy and household finances are keeping UK workers awake at night.

According to a poll by hotelier, Travelodge, accountants, legal jobs and construction jobs are among the ten worst affected professions.

''It's no surprise that professions in the industries worst hit by the credit crunch come top of the charts," noted director of sleep, Leigh McCarron.

''We all know that money worries and job security are key drivers of stress which in turn, leads to significant sleep loss.''

The poll of 4,000 workers revealed lawyers manage 6hrs 32 minutes per night, more than accountants and builders (6hrs 24mins).

Estate agents are struggling most to get their heads down - the study found they are the only profession averaging less than six hours per night (5hrs and 50 mins).

Taking regular exercise and reducing caffeine intake in the evening are both said to help improve restfulness.
