ATSCo: Members face compliance checks

19/08/2008

Agency trade body the Association of Technology Staffing Companies (ATSCo) has announced members will face compulsory compliance tests, it has been reported

The regulation has been devised with HM Customs & Revenue and is designed to reduce the extra risk faced by staffing companies dealing with contractor service providers.

ATSCo director Marilyn Davidson said the uncertainty surrounding non-compliance has "increased significantly".

"These checks will give staffing companies a significant measure of assurance that service providers in the contractor market are operating in accordance with the law," Ms Davidson added.

Not only workers in legal jobs face complex legal documentation – a secretary involved with payroll needs to understand tax and National Insurance law as well as employment legislation.

The ATSCo checks will run annually and ensure providers of accountancy and umbrella company services are compliant with tax and employment law.

The move is in response to the government's recent focus on the temporary worker market.
