Accountants working elsewhere
01/09/2008
Almost all accountants work for companies other than accountancy firms, new research has shown.
The survey revealed more than a third (34 per cent) work for finance contractors in industry and commerce, 34 per cent are employed by the public sector and less almost one in five (18 per cent) work for investment banks and fund managers.
"Accountancy firms have been reluctant to utilise contractors, despite ongoing difficulties recruiting the right skills," Mathew Brown, managing director of giant group, which conducted the poll told Recruiter.
The recruitment services provider's study also found 77 per cent of workers in accountancy jobs expect to receive a pay rise this year, although four per cent did predict a cut.
Recent figures from the Office for National Statistics showed pay increased by 0.2 per cent over the second quarter of 2008 and is now 3.6 per cent higher than last year.
