Accountancy skills in demand

24/09/2008

Despite the UK's unfavorable economic climate accountants are likely to be high in demand, it has been claimed.

The Higher Education Careers Service Unit (HECSU) says that accountants' skills will be more needed than those of investment bankers as the credit crunch continues.

Deputy director of HECSU, Charlie Ball, claims that investment bankers could find their career less than straightforward in the near future.

"For accountants it might not be quite as gloomy as that," he said.

He went on to say: "It's accountants who are going to have to scrutinise the bottom line, accountants who are going to have to pick up all the pieces."

However it has not always been as promising for accountants.

In 2001 the number of permanent places offered to graduates dropped to its lowest.

In August this year the number was almost as low, KPMG, has claimed.

But according to the Association of Graduate Recruiters the graduate recruitment market is remaining healthy throughout the current financial storm, reports Employment 4 Students website.ADNFCR-1196-ID-18794927-ADNFCR
