Accountants 'need to dress effectively'
11/11/2008
It may not always seem like a top priority but people in accountancy jobs need to make sure they look the part.
That's according to a professional image expert who says it is essential to give a good first impression no matter what career someone is in.
Speaking to Accounting Web, Fiona Ingham, who started image consultancy, House of Colour, said that "each profession needs to project certain qualities".
She added that people in accountancy jobs "need to be perceived differently from clients in media, fashion, retail or teaching".
"The trick in effective dressing is to know what you wish or need to project, something people often have never considered," Ms Ingham explained.
"Accountants sometimes cite efficiency, professionalism, competence, authority, organisation, as qualities important to them, as opposed to zany, cutting edge, high fashion or eccentric, which may be relevant for clients involved in art or design."
Meanwhile, accountant Emma White, who has just set up her own practice in Manchester, told the Manchester Evening News that "people need good accountants at the moment and banks need more assurance".
