Businesses turning to accountants
11/11/2008
More accountancy jobs could open up after research suggests people are turning away from taking advice from banks and instead consulting an accountant.
A survey has shown that that 70 per cent of small companies would ask the advice of an accountant regarding financial matters.
This compares to just 47 per cent of companies who said they would speak to their bank manager.
The poll, carried out by the Forum of Private Business (FPB) and commercial credit agency Graydon UK, also found that 36 per cent of small firms hadn't sought financial help in the last year.
Phil Orford, chief executive of the FPB, said: "There is an increasing trend of established managers being replaced by individuals in call centres.
"This can seriously affect long-standing and profitable business banking relationships.
"It is not surprising that more small business owners are turning to their trusted accountants."
In January 2008, a separate survey by the FPB found that 84.2 per cent of people had chosen an accountant through a personal recommendation.
