Graduates reject their subjects for better jobs

13/11/2008

Graduates are prepared to take on work unrelated to their degree qualification, just to get jobs, a survey has found.

According to PricewaterhouseCoopers' survey of 300 UK graduates, half of graduates and students will 'look around' to insure they land a job.

It discovered that respondents were most worried about ongoing job security but were still keen on jobs in the City of London.

"For such an overwhelming number of students and graduates to be concerned about their job prospects emphasises the need for students to think as early as possible about their options," noted head of student recruitment, Sonja Stockton.

A third of respondents believed job prospects would not improve for two years and 81 per cent said they were more worried than before.

Ms Stockton advised students to examine how their non-academic skills, as well as their tradition results, can help them better secure a position.

According to National Statistics, unemployment rate is up 0.5 per cent on the year.
