Bankers told 'you are accountable'

Bankers and accountants have been told they will be held accountable for the UK's economic performance

Tory leader David Cameron also asked for the Financial Services Authority to be more involved in targeting financial crime.

Speaking at the heart of the country's financial and insurance sector, Mr Cameron told a Canary Warf crowd: "It is fair and reasonable that those responsible are held to account for their behaviour."

He was keen to stress that money bought no privilege, as "there is not one rule for the rich and a different rule for everybody else," he said.

"This is not, at root, about more legislation. The laws are already there. Rather, it's about implementation and law enforcement."

UK banks and financial companies need qualified professionals in accountancy jobs to help prepare financial results, and help manage their cash.

Several City lenders have struck of staff recently, although there are still job vacancies in the square mile.
