Londoners 'earning the most'
29/12/2008

Employees in London are still earning more than workers in any other part of the country, it has been revealed.
A new survey shows that those with jobs in the capital are on an average salary of £46,000 a year.
The figures from the GMB union found that Londoners were taking home nearly twice that of those in the north-east who on average earn around £25,551.
People with jobs in the City of London earned the most with an average salary of £82,000 a year.
Paul Kenny, general secretary of the GMB, said: "Since these figures were drawn up, the credit crunch - which originated from excesses in the financial sector - has now given rise to a full blown recession, with all the misery that entails.
"We will have to see if average pay holds up in 2009 in the face of this slowdown.
"As well as taking measures to restart their economies, governments in the UK and elsewhere need to take steps to deal once and for all with the elements in the financial sector responsible for this recession."
