Holidays add to increased productivity at work

Workers feel happier in their jobs when they have a holiday to look forward to, one commentator has said.

This in turn leads to increased productivity levels among staff, according to Frances Tuke from travel association ABTA.

She explained that the promise of a summer holiday – or "sunticipation" – makes employees take greater care in their careers.

"We know that people work very hard and we have the highest number of working hours in Europe," Ms Tuke commented, suggesting that holidays are a significant factor when people are considering new jobs.

As a result of the UK's long-hours culture, she said that many "people need holidays to take a break from the pressure but also spend valuable time with their loved ones and families which they would not be able to do in a normal working week".

Recent research from ABTA revealed that 50 per cent of people see an overseas holiday as a vital escape from the pressures of the current economic climate.ADNFCR-1196-ID-18975193-ADNFCR
